Morning Covenant Silver Report

๐ด JP Morgan Contrarian Signal
JP Morgan is calling clients advising them to sell silver and buy gold.
Confirmed by multiple sources in US and Hong Kong (via Dario).
When bullion banks tell you to sell, it's time to hold tighter.
"If I had an account with them and they came to me and said that, I'd say okay. Then I'd call them later and say 'Please buy me some more silver.' And maybe even take delivery of some of those 5,000 oz bars they're keeping for their clients."
"I think the bullion banks are concerned. They have a big short in silver. Silver is moving so rapidly... They know deep down what silver is. It's money. Look at the name for money in French โ argent. Spanish โ plata. It all comes from silver."
โ ๏ธ Refinery Crisis โ Paper/Physical Divergence
Elemetal: Suspended locks, pool pricing only. Metalor: Paused scrap gold entirely. "Billions sitting on shelves waiting to be refined."
"This is going to have tremendous ripple effects in our industry. Putting a pause on buying non-pure silver is one thing, but if none of the refiners are taking scrap gold, our industry is going to come to a screeching halt."
Paper Market
- Silver slammed $117 โ $102
- Gold dropped below $5,000
- Futures sold aggressively
- Weak hands shaken out
Physical Market
- Refiners PAUSE buying
- 4-6 week settlement
- Credit limits exhausted
- System seizing up
"I don't think it's something we should worry about as retail investors because we operate at a much smaller scale." The crisis affects dealer-to-refiner flow, not retail buying from established dealers who remain stocked.
๐ Gnome of Zurich Forecast
"The faster and higher a market goes, the bigger the moves โ and the corrections become sharper and quicker." This is an INTERIM top, not THE top.
1,000 oz Silver @ $840: $840,000
100 oz Gold @ $8,400: $840,000
Total: $1,680,000 (vs $621,100 today = +170%)
The Havenstein Thesis
Yesterday's analysis compared incoming Fed Chair Rick Reeder to Rudolf Havenstein, head of the Reichsbank during Weimar hyperinflation (1922-23).
Havenstein (1922-23)
- "Money supply unconnected with price levels"
- Printed to "alleviate" inflation
- Believed Reichsbank could handle it
- Result: Currency death in 18 months
Reeder (2021-26)
- Doesn't discuss M2, focuses on CPI
- Wants 3% rates despite inflation
- Believes reserve currency immune
- Called inflation "transitory" in 2021
"The die is cast for a very serious monetary event โ an event that hasn't happened for the world's reserve currency ever. Rick Reeder is the new Havenstein. Unfortunately, 99.9% of the public will not see it coming."
Germany: Summer 1922 โ Late 1923 (18 months to currency death)
Current: ~12 months into acceleration phase
Estimate: "We could have another 18 months before things get really crazy."
The Melt-Up Thesis
"About a year ago, I sat here and talked about what the end of the fiat system might look like. I said we might see a final face-ripping melt-up โ a huge rally in precious metals before the system breaks. Take a look around. This is it."
"The near-dated silver future in COMEX trades below the spot price. Silver has gone into backwardation. This is not a normal bull market."
COMEX Delivery Stress
| Metric | Value | Implication |
|---|---|---|
| March Open Interest | 528M oz | More than total vault |
| Registered Silver | 114M oz | Down from 123M |
| Total COMEX Silver | 416M oz | Down from 439M |
| January Deliveries | 46M oz | 6.75x normal (2024) |
| Shanghai Premium | $14 | All-time record |
"If March 2026 follows January's pattern, we could see 35,000-40,000 contracts standing for delivery โ approximately 200 million ounces. COMEX only has 114 million ounces registered. This could be the delivery failure the silver community has anticipated."
Yen Carry Trade Unwind
Japanese government bond yields are soaring as BOJ abandons ZIRP. This is forcing unwind of the multi-trillion yen carry trade.
| JGB Duration | 2019-2023 | Now |
|---|---|---|
| 3-Month | -0.1% to 0% | 0.77% |
| 2-Year | Negative | 1.27% |
| 10-Year | 0% to 0.5% | 2.38% |
| 30-Year | 0.4% to 0.6% | 3.6-3.93% |
The "free money machine" is breaking. Investors forced to sell global assets to repay yen loans. Flight to precious metals accelerating.
Historical Context: Shadow Stats
| Metric | Value | Note |
|---|---|---|
| 1980 Silver High | $50 | Hunt Brothers + Soviet Afghanistan |
| Adjusted for Real Inflation | $1,639 | Shadow Stats methodology |
| Adjustment Factor | 32.78x | Since 1980 |
| 1970s Average Silver | $4.12 | Decade average |
| Adjusted 70s Average | $185.20 | We're below this now |
| 1980 Debt/GDP | 35% | โ |
| 2026 Debt/GDP | 125% | 3.5x higher |
On Confiscation Fears
"The confiscation is going to be done de facto, not de jure. Gold and silver are not part of the system right now. I don't think there's a danger of confiscation. There is a danger, though, that the price will be so much higher that you will needlessly get rid of your gold and silver for a lot of paper."
The "confiscation" won't come from government seizure. It will come from YOU selling too early โ trading God's money for paper heading to zero.

โข Physical possession: "If you don't hold it, you don't own it"

โข GSR rotation: Harvest volatility between metals
โข Count in ounces: An ounce is an ounce โ fiat price is measurement noise
โข Expect volatility: $15 swings are the new normal โ be tough
โข De facto confiscation: The danger is YOU selling, not government seizure
